While Melinda’s marketing manager role at Wildcat was designed to develop our communications strategy, she exhibited the kind of attitude and intelligence to be able to do most anything. Once onboard, she quickly set a course for our communications strategy and executed it through her skills in graphic design, project management and operations. Rarely have I encountered someone who I would consider as top talent but Melinda is at that level. If I could hire her again, I absolutely wouldn't hesitate.

Melinda is an excellent communicator and hands-on professional. I engaged her to provide expertise in updating my professional networking profile and create a post to secure future clients. She was very knowledgeable and helpful and presented creative ideas to ensure my success. She asked me insightful questions but also asked for my opinions and feedback. I really appreciated her collaborative approach. We spent a couple of hours working together and a short while later, she had created a professional and contemporary post.

She helped the Illini Union grow to 6,285 Instagram followers (69% growth); 7,334 Facebook followers (14% growth); and 6,419 Twitter followers (8% growth). She also assisted in the challenge to reshape the social media strategy for the Illini Union Bookstore, helping to increase online sales by 300%. Melinda jumps right in, listens, takes feedback, and works great both independently and in a team.

Melinda carries a positive energy with her that makes her a joy to work with on a project! Her communication skills are top-notch and she asks thoughtful questions. As Digital Content Specialist, she took the lead on the social accounts for Illini Union Bookstore. Not only did she revitalize our pages and develop a tone; she also dived deep into analytics! Because of her work, we were able to learn our demographics, what worked/what didn't, and tweak our posts. When we decided we needed to feature more posts with people, she helped organize a photo shoot at the Bookstore! Melinda is happy to share her own creative ideas, but always listens to the ideas of others to make sure what she presents meets expectations.

Professor Sevilla does an excellent job communicating concepts to students. She has obvious experience teaching Public Speaking and is comfortable in the virtual classroom. She works to get students actively involved in learning. The midterm evaluations were very positive - students report that Prof. Sevilla is easy to talk to, enthusiastic, and always wanting students to succeed. One student stated, ‘Prof. Sevilla is my favorite professor I have had this year, she is really enthusiastic and teaches us information in a really engaging way by bringing up things we are interested in and using slideshows with good pictures/illustrations.’

Melinda is a natural leader motivated by a sense of purpose. Our summer research program typically requires our students to commit approximately forty hours a week to satisfy research responsibilities and additional assignments. She did so without hesitation and demonstrated grace in her ability to manage a heavy workload including field research, GRE training, and community building events. In addition to completing all aspects of our summer program, she served her peers by motivating them to achieve their potential. I personally relied on her to help me identify and serve students who needed additional attention. I am absolutely confident that she will continue to use her academic and professional success to build up her community.

Ramiro Frausto, Director of University of San Diego TRiO McNair Scholars Program

In her courses with me, Melinda repeatedly demonstrated her innate talent for teaching through numerous class presentations. Melinda has an ability to convey both intellectual depth and genuine excitement when speaking to a classroom full of students, which leaves me no doubt that she will excel as a professor, where both of these qualities are of paramount importance.
