Though I only originally intended to study abroad for a semester in Spain, I quickly realized it would take longer to truly immerse myself. I set off on a quest to get the right visa paperwork and university approval to stay in Madrid for a year. During that year, I took Global Communication courses in Spanish at a local university, held two Public Relations internships, worked as a front desk associate at my university’s international headquarters, collected interviews for my qualitative research study on transnational films, and even taught English to Spanish native speakers.
